Dallas PPA Education

We strive to provide the best education to our members. The Board of Directors and specifically the Director of Education work hard to plan a year’s worth of educational events for guild. We offer education structured in the following 3 layers.

Monthly meetings- we invite top notch photographers to each monthly meeting to share their insight on their photography, how they run their business and how they market their services. We try to cover the waterfront with different topics each month. Meeting topics include:

- Business

- Headshots

- Branding

- Digital Compositing

- Fine Art

- Wildlife

- Food/Product

- Portraits

- Retouching

Even if these genres are not what you specialize in there are always nuggets of information you can take away form the meetings. Often times, they come from other members attending the meeting.

Member 2 Member (M2M)- each member of our guild has a skillset that we encourage to be shared. Members volunteer to teach a small class ( approximately 10 members) on a topic they have become expert in and wish to share with others.  M2M topics can vary but often include:

- Studio Lighting

- Social Media

- Off Camera Flash

- Lightroom/Capture One

- In-Person-Sales

- Web Design

- Marketing

- Print Competition

Dallas Photography Summit (DPS):  Our annual seminar is a 2-day extravaganza. We invite a nationally recognized photographer to give an intensive 2-day workshop. The feature photographers gives demonstrations live on stage. In addition, there are mini-studios with models set up so attendees can capture portfolio images while at the Summit. Well over 100 photographers from across the country attend the DPS. We also invite our sponsors to offer their wares for sale during the Summit.

Previous headliners include: Jerry Ghionis- Nikon Ambassador, Joel Grimes- Canon Explorer of Light, Roberto Valenzuela-Canon Explorer of Light, Joe McNally-Nikon Ambassador and Lindsey Adler-Canon Explorer of Light

All these educational events are member driven. Early the year, we survey our members to understand what topics they'd like our invited speakers to discuss. A committee of member volunteers take the survey results and kick off a national search for photographers that excelled in those fields and could give our members the most insight.

Of course there is always the education derived by being a member of our community. There are well over 200 photographers in the guild. It’s hard not to learn something while networking amongst the members while at our Meetings, M2M events and the Summit.See the Events page for the current list of educational events offered.
