Transformative Portraiture: Beginning, Middle, End
Throughout history, innovation has encouraged our ability to create, control, and capture light in new and different ways. Understanding the creative process starts well before we ever pick up our camera or light a scene. Instead of an emphasis on "How" or "What" can be done, we start by understanding "Why."
When we start there, everything else becomes secondary, a means to the end. Beginning with a concept and ending with the execution, the decisions we make in pre-production influences the impact of the finished image. There is a correlation between the amount of work done in planning and the success of failure of the shoot or session.
During our time together at Little Red School House, we will dive into the exciting worlds of Fine Art & Portrait Photography and discover various tools, techniques and processes we can use to provide visual depth in our photography. We will explore cinematic lighting styles and learn why "Impact" starts with great light and shadow. The final steps of propping and styling come together to help us provide the essential information to communicate our message.
The Edmonson’s have been called a “Master Photographer to Master Photographers” and with good reason.
With a lifetime spent growing up within the industry, the indelible impact David Edmonson & Luke Edmonson leave with clients, students and peers around the world is remarkable. No doubt, our signature style is unmistakable. But it’s our “Iron-Sharpens-Iron” philosophy that has fueled our art and professional success.
A relentless pursuit of excellence through competition. Selfless mentorship. A hands-on benevolence with our passionate charities.
Simply put, the “Edmonson Way” means that giving is a both a privilege and a path to self-improvement; for ourselves and those we encounter.
In 2015, Luke, a Double Master of Wedding & Portrait Photographers International (WPPI), presented his father David, a Triple Master of WPPI, with the Lifetime Achievement Award, the organization's highest honor. Luke is one of the three founders and a graduate of WPPI’s Certification Program for Wedding & Portrait Photographers, the first ever of its kind.
Professional Photographers of America (PPA) recognizes both of us as Master of Photography (M. PHOTOG), Photographic Craftsman (CR. PHOTOG) and Luke as a Certified Professional Photographer (CPP) among other honored designations. We are previous Diamond Photographers of the Year and multiple winners of both the Kodak Gallery Awards and Fuji Masterpiece Awards.
We made history as members of the Australian Institute of Professional Photography (AIPP) with back to back wins in 2014 & 2015 in the AIPP APPA competition as International & Overseas Photographers of the Year. This single award goes to the international competitor with the highest scoring collection of prints.
As members of the Society of Wedding & Portrait Photographers (SWPP) in the U.K., both of us have earned our Fellowships in wedding photography & portrait photography. At the SWPP Print Competition in London, David left an indelible mark with a perfect 100 scoring print. Needless to say, he was named the Overall 20x16 Winner.
We are both invited members of the Camera Craftsman of America, one of the oldest, most prestigious groups in the world dedicated to advancing the profession of photography as an art form.
We are sought-after speakers and educators locally, nationally and abroad, teaching the up and coming aspiring photographer, sharing our talents and know-how to help others hone their craft. We also serve as print judges for major international print competitions and served three terms as President of the Dallas Professional Photographers Association.
It’s often said that Art Imitates Life. If you’ve ever seen the work of Luke Edmonson & David Edmonson, this is clearly true:
“Profound with dimensionality, ingrained with emotion and compelling in their beauty."
…This is the Edmonson Way.
