DPPA is your local guild. The Texas Professional Photographers Association is the largest state affiliate of the national PPA. Two big events are held every year.
Texas School - A week long inexpensive comprehensive educational opportunity held every spring and this year it celebrated it’s 40th year. Texas School has grown over those 40 years to become the largest photography school in the country (1024 students this year alone) and it is held in Addison at the InterContinental Hotel and Conference Center. The vast majority of the over 30 instructors that train their group of students (classes are normally less than 20) return year after year because of the fun atmosphere of the school and the quality of photographers they encounter. Through the various classes that are offered, students are coached in every aspect of their profession, whether it be lighting, marketing, or a new niche that you may have considered for your business. How often do you get an opportunity to spend a whole week with one instructor for under $1000? Plus, it’s probably the most fun you will ever have while going to school? If you want to improve your skills in a particular area and want to have fun with a hotel full of like-minded individuals, then Texas School is definitely for you.
TPPA SummerFest – This is a new event for TPPA and will held at the La Torretta Resort & Spa in Lake Conroe June 28 – July 1. Along with a line up of great presenters, including DPPA’s own Elena Hernandez and Ft. Worth PPA’s Brad Barton, the annual Print Competition will be held as well. One of the particularly fun elements of this print competition is the multiple ways entrants can win an award. There are twenty “Best of” awards just in the two “Open” categories alone and include awards such as, “Best Portrait of a Women”, “Best Aerial”, “Best Sport/Event”, etc. If you wanting to flex your print competition muscle outside of DPPA, this is the event for you.
